You are not the plug community Russell and I never said that Mark Jones can't teach. Nobody is incapable of learning where not everyone can learn about computer science in general and Linux specifically the same way. Mark Jones in my opinion teaches in a way that demands a different background than the average person who grows up in Oregon is likely to have. If it is hard to learn from Mark Jones because K-12 education stinks in Oregon, that's not Mark Jones fault. Stop being a bully Russell, what does it give you quite frankly? I hate plug-talk, I hate reading that Obama needs a new pair of shoes when I voted against him. I also hate that people will get into atheistic rants on there among other things. That this community maintains the plug-talk list at all is in my opinion a sad state of affairs. Now it is widely known that Mark Jones is a computer science teacher. I am writing about computer science if I talk about him, that is understood, and that is indeed germane to this list. Is plug for the discussion of Linux/Unix specifically and in more general terms computer science, or not? If tomorrow there are no new computer scientists and the ones that currently exist die off sooner than later, Linux will be severely impacted. Helping someone get through computer science and become competent, especially someone who wants to work on Linux systems, is in the long term interest of this community. Linux would not exist at all if Linus hadn't received help from others over the Internet. Imagine Linux coming to fruition if it had been Linus's private project developed without the benefit of the GNU tools and without the Internet. There would be no Linux as we know it in that kind of an environment. I'm sure Linus is intelligent and quite skilled, but look at OS projects like Syllable, ReactOS, and especially Visopsys which need more help. ReactOS, 12+ years old, is not stable. Linux is what, 21 years old? Hasn't Linux been usable since 1993? The difference between Linux and ReactOS or Linux and Visopsys is that Linux became usable quickly. Point is, that wouldn't have happened if Linux had been Linus's pet project or private hobby. Linus had to learn a lot to cobble together the first stable Linux kernel. _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
