I've recently set up a new web server running CentOS 5.5 and I wanted to change the machine name from what it was named when it wsa built to something else. So I set hostname=hotspur.gisnet.local and changed the HOSTNAME= line in /etc/sysconfig/network to HOSTNAME=hotspur.gisnet.local.
The problem I have now is that each night when it tries to send the daily output from Logwatch to root the mail doesn't get sent because it thinks that hotspur.gisnet.local doesn't exist. I guess I need to chnage a setting in some config file, but I can't tell which one(s) to change. Here's what I see in maillog (last night before the logs were run I chnaged it back to lower.gisnet.local, and so the log records for Apr 9 are normal and correct, but for Apr 8th, you can see the problem: Apr 8 04:02:01 lower sendmail[6872]: p38A21t9006872: from=root, size=2054, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<[email protected]>, relay=root@localhost Apr 8 04:02:02 lower sendmail[7009]: p38A21KF007009: from=<[email protected]>, size=2324, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<[email protected]>, proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1] Apr 8 04:02:02 lower sendmail[6872]: p38A21t9006872: to=root, ctladdr=root (0/0), delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=relay, pri=32054, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (p38A21KF007009 Message accepted for delivery) Apr 8 04:02:02 lower sendmail[7011]: p38A21KF007009: to=<[email protected]>, delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=122324, relay=hotspur.gisnet.local, dsn=5.1.2, stat=Host unknown (Name server: hotspur.gisnet.local: host not found) Apr 8 04:02:02 lower sendmail[7011]: p38A21KF007009: p38A22KF007011: DSN: Host unknown (Name server: hotspur.gisnet.local: host not found) Apr 8 04:02:02 lower sendmail[7011]: p38A22KF007011: to=<[email protected]>, delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=33558, relay=hotspur.gisnet.local, dsn=5.1.2, stat=Host unknown (Name server: hotspur.gisnet.local: host not found) Apr 8 04:02:02 lower sendmail[7011]: p38A22KF007011: p38A22KG007011: return to sender: Host unknown (Name server: hotspur.gisnet.local: host not found) Apr 8 04:02:02 lower sendmail[7011]: p38A22KG007011: to=root, delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=local, pri=34582, dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent Apr 9 04:02:03 lower sendmail[15116]: p39A22Bn015116: from=root, size=3037, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<[email protected]>, relay=root@localhost Apr 9 04:02:03 lower sendmail[15353]: p39A23Ax015353: from=<[email protected]>, size=3303, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<[email protected]>, proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1] Apr 9 04:02:03 lower sendmail[15116]: p39A22Bn015116: to=root, ctladdr=root (0/0), delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=33037, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (p39A23Ax015353 Message accepted for delivery) Apr 9 04:02:03 lower sendmail[15354]: p39A23Ax015353: to=<[email protected]>, ctladdr=<[email protected]> (0/0), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=local, pri=33527, dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent Thanks for the help! - Bill Thoen _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
