My desktop computer (Lucid, x86_64, up to date) uses the nVidia 6150 on
the motherboard. The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 206BW LCD display,
roughly three years old, maybe four. I am using the proprietary nVidia
driver.

The monitor has always worked fine, but a couple of days ago upon
restoring from the screensaver in the morning the monitor flashed on
and off for 10-20 times before finally displaying the screen. The day
before it worked fine. Every time I try to restore from the screensaver
now I get the same flashing. The flashing is not completely regular;
the screen flashes the display for a quarter of a second every two to
four seconds.

Today I needed to reboot the computer for the first time since this
started. When the login screen tried to display I got the same
flashing. In other words, restarting the computer did not change
anything.

I don't have any other monitors to substitute for testing purposes.

Any troubleshooting suggestions or other observations welcome.
