Office jets do use optical sensors for alignment and such ... could be
dirt in lense

I was going to say I like my HP Officejet 7310 all-in-one, but I see
they don't seem to be made any more.
But the 4500 at $99.99 seems like a possible, although the reviews seem
to favor the 6500A ($99.99 after $50 instant savings).
For just color printing, the reviews seem to favor the Officejet 6000
printer, but then it doesn't scan. Have to pretty much stay with the
all-in-one, I guess

Your mileage may vary ... check for local dealers ... check Free Geek
... good luck
