I doubt it. And if it was an issue with the phone's VFAT implementation, I expect the laptop wouldn't be able to mount the card at all. John, are you using an adaptor to fit the Micro SD card into your laptop's reader? If so, have you tried a different adaptor? It's possible the write-protect switch on the adaptor is not quite right for the reader in your laptop.
