Thanks, Galen. She likes the 15.6" widescreens. Most of the refurbished/scratch-and-dent ThinkPads have 14" screens. Newegg has a Dell Vostro 1540 at a good price. Dell supports linux, and I found a vendor in South Africa that sells them with linux installed. So there should not be an issue of putting xubuntu on it here. I wonder how much money manufacturers pay to have someone think up names for their products.
