Denis,

I am also new to IRC.  To start you need something like XChat.  Once 
installed you need to register an alias with a password.  That took some 
doing to find an alias not already in use.  Then you log into freenode.  
Use the command "/msg nickserv identify <your password>" (without the 
quotes or < >) in the space at the bottom of the page.  Then use the 
command /join #ubuntu-classroom.  If all goes well, you will be 
following the conversation.  David is teaching on Unity lenses as I type.
