The ability of others to ping my IP address, 216.99.206.23, apparently
disappeared when I moved to different DNS servers and a different domain
registrar. Or, it's been non-functional before then but no one told me that.

I can ping that address from the LAN and it works, but that's looking at
the world-addressable WAN IP address from the inside, not the outside.

According to the folks at SpiritOne the inability to use ICMP to ping my
address is in my firewall/router, a Netgear FVS318. However, I cannot find
any reference to turning on or off ICMP on any of the admin Web pages. The
docs I have are all for the VPN components of the FVS318 and I don't believe
that I ever learned what to do with it.

I've no idea what to change to let others ping my IP address. It should be
possible as I have no reason to block that service. I don't see that service
specifically listed in the Netgear's service list; I suppose that I could
try adding it if I know whether it used UDP or TCP and what ports would be
appropriate.

   Expertise solicited.

TIA,

Rich
