Cleaning the contacts may have worked. When I disconnected the ViewSonic
from the computer I replaced it with another Samsung. The Samsung is VGA
only, so I put in a DVI to VGA adapter. That act may have cleaned the
contacts on the video card. The ViewSonic also has a VGA socket, so this
morning I moved the VGA cable from the Samsung to the ViewSonic. Once I
powered up the ViewSonic worked as before -- no jitters.

I guess I don't really know if the problem was dirty contacts on the
video card, or dirty contacts on the DVI port of the monitor, or
something else inside the monitor. But I'm happy that it's working again
because I had grown accustomed to having the 1680 x 1050 monitor next to
a 1280 x 1024 monitor. I have a couple of applications that need the
extra width to work well.

Thanks to all for the advice.
