John assisted in getting Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit installed on my ASUS EeePC 1015PEM. Not wanting to face the frustration of Unity I immediately downloaded XFCE 4.10. It mostly runs OK to the extent I have tested it, but at least some of the function keys do not do what they should: fnF3 should toggle the touchpad (it appears to do nothing) ; fnF10 should toggle the sound (it shuts it off but not back on, but displays the little graphic indicating speaker on/off). I had similar problems with my earlier attempt at Ubuntu (12.04) and XFCE (version likely was 4.8). I posted to their forum but got only one response since May. That one response sent me to http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Talk:UltraNav#Script_for_switching_state_of_TouchPad_and_TrackPoint, which I found less than satisfactory. I am not wanting write a bunch of scripts to do what XFCE should do.
The mixer indicates the speaker off when it is, and will turn it back on, so that is not too bad. But the touchpad is more of a problem. In Unity the keys work as expected. Ideas? -Denis _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
