To the best of my knowledge, flashplayer version 11.2.202.258 is
the last one released for Linux. Any later versions will be
released for Windows and Mac OSX only. (Google has an arrangement
with Adobe to allow them to build later versions of flash into
their Chrome browser.) Whether flash will work in Firefox depends
on the site being accessed; some allow older versions of flash,
others insist on only the very latest player.

But you say that the sites you've visited require both flash and
javascript. Do you have NoScript or something similar installed,
that blocks javascript execution? If so, you'll need to unblock
those sites. That may be enough to allow flash to work; at least
that's been my experience.
