Now it launches and functions what appears to be properly from the launcher. But if I launch from a terminal, the same errors appear (but it appears to function OK). I do not know if those were always there, or if they are new. The NSS errors appear on launch. The Nvidia errors occur only after I click on something in the opening window. My guess of what happened is that when doing a system update the Chrome icon in the launcher got trashed in some way. I do not know where the information relating the icon to the executable resides on this system, so I could not investigate it. I would be interested if someone here is running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Chrome could try Chrome from a terminal to see if the errors I am seeing are unique to my system.
