Asked and answered. However, ...
When I run lpstat -a as a user I see:
lpstat: Bad Request
When I run lpstat -a as root I see:
colorp accepting requests since Thu Oct 10 17:13:24 2013
cups-pdf accepting requests since Mon Jun 8 14:17:34 2009
laser5 accepting requests since Sat Jan 11 10:40:54 2014
laser5_duplex accepting requests since Sat Jan 11 10:45:12 2014
laser5_single accepting requests since Fri Jan 24 11:40:08 2014
This suggest that perhaps the problem is some file owned by root or lp not
having 'other' perissions. Last evening I noodled around /etc/cups/ and a
couple of other places changing perms on configuration or executable files,
but there was no joy in Mudville as a result of my efforts.
