The router setup at the clinic yesterday was successful.

This morning I unplugged the cable from one of my desktop machines and
plugged it in to the router, logged in, and added all the machines in
the house that I want to have the equivalent of a static IP. I saved and
applied that bit of work, unplugged the Linksys, plugged in the Buffalo,
and the house doesn't see anything different than what it had before.
(But I know it's better!)

Then, remembering your excellent instructions, I logged in to the
router, went to System > Backup / Flash Firmware, and clicked on
"Generate archive" to save a copy of the current settings.

Thanks, again, Galen and Russell, for your help.
