I keep all locally-built, non-distribution applications in /opt. So that I can write to it as a user I set permissions of /opt to 777. Yet, sometimes I find there's no access to it and the permissions have been reset to 755.
Has anyone ideas on why this happens? Has anyone else experienced an unexpected permissions change for a partition? This is more annoying than anything else but if there's a fix I would like to apply it.
