I am one of two non-ham members of TERAC, formerly the Tektronix Radio
Amateur Club, about 30 guys meeting in Tigard once a month for dinner
and a speaker. Digital radio is a frequent topic. Russell Senior
talked about Personal Telco. Ward Cunningham presented - he's a ham,
and does cool stuff like digitizing ham bands to disk for later search
with voice recognition ("I wonder if anyone talked about XYZ in the
last couple months"). Yes, one smart guy can be his own NSA ...

Other great non-digital-radio speakers like integrated circuit guru
Barrie Gilbert, and Don Watkins of BPA, who headed the international
task force on protecting the power grid from solar storms.

I've spoken there a couple of times, so they aren't very careful
about speaker selection. :-/
