It worked just an hour before, so the PS going just at that time seems
strange.  But if I had replaced the battery when I intended I would be
blaming that, so anything is possible.  The symptoms are that the
momentary contact of the front panel switch spins the fans.  Repeated
pressing spins them some more.

 I have a couple of DVMs.  Which voltages should I test?
