Folks, While I am working on getting the data out of some machines and into a db so it can be viewed with any device that has a browser on it, I can still use the internal web server on each machine, these machines are XP running IIAS as the web server. So we can remotely view them using I.E. but nothing else because when you connect to the server it load some I guess they are .asp stuff.
The machines that are monitoring these web servers are in other parts of the plant, I would like to move them to Linux, but this I.E. thing is a issue. I was thinking of trying Wine to see if I.E. would load and run those things under wine, if so then that is a quick solution that lets me clean up some machines and get rid of some stuff that causes more issues than it fixes. Then I can go about the other thing with the db on a less pressing level. I have seen I.E. run under Wine but I do not know if it will run the apps that the browser downloads and runs each time it contacts one of the machines. i know that if I.E. has not been totally opened up it will not run these things (the computers are on a island network, it is the plant SCADA network and has no access to the outside world) Any pointers or just load wine install I.E and give it a try ? -- Chuck Hast -- KP4DJT -- Glass, five thousand years of history and getting better.
