Denis, The hard drive is fine, which makes me wonder if the power supply is getting flaky or a fan is not sufficiently cooling the CPU. I've had 2 power supply failures, but so long ago I don't recall the symptoms until they completely failed. Depending on the computer's age, a new one using the same hard drive might be the least frustrating, and time-consuming, option.
