For some reason there is a remnant of the old grub hanging around on your system and occasionally your system is trying to boot from it. You might diagnose the problem by running sudo bootinfoscript http://sourceforge.net/projects/bootinfoscript/ and looking at the RESULTS.TXT file it creates.
