Indeed, that seems to be the purpose of the *.trashinfo files. I discovered the problem on my desktop (Xubuntu 12.04, up to date), which is not my main machine. Thunar there (version 1.2.3) does have a Trash item in the Places list, but emptying it does not empty the .Trash-1000 folder on the mounted USB drive. However, emptying the trash does remove all the files, including the *.trashinfo files, on / and /home. It's just the USB drive that it doesn't work on. I considered continuing this discussion of the Xfce forums, but before doing so I tried my main computer (Xubuntu 14.04, up to date, Thunar 1.6.3). I mounted the USB drive, copied a file to it and then deleted it. Then I used Thunar's Trash item in Places to empty the trash. It emptied the trash on / and /home, and the USB drive as well. My semi-educated guess at this point is that emptying the trash on drives mounted in /media was added to Thunar sometime between Thunar 1.2.3 and 1.6.3. Maybe someone else noticed this and bitched about it. So my solution is to stop being so lazy and upgrade the desktop to 14.04. In the meantime, those using Thunar 1.2.3 on 12.04 should be aware that emptying the trash doesn't work on USB drives. _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
