I'm still subscribed, and I remember reading just the other day about a problem similar to yours, although I think it was a very recent model that was affected. Apparently Lenovo paired with Microsoft to do something with the disk drives to make them faster. The only fix at this time is to install the latest Ubuntu, which has modifications so it can be installed.
