Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and ideas. I'll be looking into them.
To expand on the why: I am looking at a Raspberry Pi running headless to connect to my Yaesu FT-857D and Signalink USB. Then use a phone, tablet or laptop as the terminal. This way I don't have to dedicate my netbook, laptop, tablet or phone. There would also be the option to connect a display, keyboard and mouse or some combination of them to the Pi. Again thanks for the replies.
