I use ZoneMinder as the DVR and I prefer wired cameras if you can run the cat5/6. I have used wifi linked cams but never realy trusted them. If you go wireless, I would go with a good product. I do NOT trust the memory cards in cameras, seen too many fail, and just when u need them. There is a lot of junque out there on the cheap end and a lot of it demands a windows box to pull the video.
ZoneMinder has a good list of cameras that willl work with OSS. Take a look at their web page: ZoneMinder.com I had a similar issue in tampa neighbor daughter was using the mailboxes as drug drop, put up a camera aimed at the boxes and saw the whole thing, also got pix of the obese purp that broke into a neighbor home. He stopped in his Jeep Cherokee in front of the boxes, got him his car and the tattoo on his left arm. I use axis for the commrrcial installs. They are not cheap though, but if you go wireless you will not have issues with security if your Wifi is locked down.
