By inserting a USB-A male plug at one end of a cable in that port and the

That is highly unlikely to work. That is the USB equivalent of tying
the RS232 outputs of two desktops together, except that there's no such
thing as a USB null modem cable. With the exception of USB On-The-Go
(OTG), you can't tie two USB host devices together like that. You'll
need to use the micro USB connector. Neither your scanner nor desktop
is likely to support USB OTG. OTG is typically found on cell phones.
If I had the USB cable that you describe, I would likely cut it in half
and recycle it.
(Note: I haven't taken the time to read the manual for your scanner.
The above is based on my understanding of USB. YMMV)
