I use Debian 12.8 with Mate 1.26.0 as desktop.
My primary browser is SeaMonkey 2.53.21 .
My internet connection is a USB device sold by T-Mobile as a "WiFi Hotspot".
[I have the WiFi disabled thus essentially using it as a high speed modem]
My service has a LOW data cap which I occasionally exceed.

I wish to log daily cumulative totals of my usage.
[T-Mobile's app reports cumulative usage for _current_ month]

I was pointed to vnstat whose man page indicates it should more than meet all my needs.
[https://humdi.net/vnstat/ , https://humdi.net/vnstat/man/vnstat.html]

I'm having problems with the " --iface interface" option and am looking for a *Debian specific* HOWTO. I suspect part of my problem revolves around how the OS sees the device across power on/off cyles as reported by "ip l" and cousins.

NOTE: Though have used Debian since Stretch, gaps in my knowledge.

Help please.
