This is vaguely Linux, because I hope to set up shell scripts to connect to an Android phone with "scrcpy" (or other Linux app), and operate the phone with the mouse and keyboard on a big screen Debian desktop via a USB cable and Linux apps.
Sadly, my jittery hands and elderly eyes make it difficult to operate a screen phone to put it into the correct modes. A clicky backspace BUTTON on the Android would be very helpful, which is why I am trying to connect with scrcpy from Linux ... and connect to a world that increasingly requires a "smart phone" for basic survival. Hearing loss doesn't help, either. Until now, I depended on my wife for this, but yesterday's brush with her urgent care doctors made clear that I *MUST* be able to navigate what I call a dodopaddle. Hopefully without developing the kneejerk behavioral pathologies that "smart" phones encourage. That shades into plug-talk; for now, basic connection to the "smart" phone universe with Linux, clicky keyboard, and ball/optical mouse is my goal. Tested ideas? Expert suggestions? Paid help?
