hmmm. have you checked with the irq settings? it may be a conflict
between pcmcia and some other device, like a sound card for example. i
had a similar experience with my toshiba notebook before; i thought it
was a kernel config thing, but it turned out i just had to fiddle with
the irq's until i found a number that worked... my case wasn't identical
to yours, but it might help...
