It's possible that you have identd running off from the startup
script via /etc/rc.d/init.d/identd and at the same have in.identd
activated from /etc/inetd.conf.

You have to de-activate one of them.  One way is to do what
Marlon suggested -- commenting the entry in inetd.conf.  Or,
disable the identd startup script via chkconfig.
