no its not. the NIC was working under slackware 4. i just migrated to redhat 6.2. when i booted using the compiled kernel, i can see that the NIC is now recognized. booting just stops because of the kernel panic error.

researching from the net, i read in a post that 3:02 pertains to a major number of 3 and minor number of 1. i think this shows my partitions kasi i have 3 partitions, aside from my swap. i have my root at /dev/hda2. and i had it defined in my lilo.conf.

any other suggestions?

Try to use another NIC if you have an extra. If you follow the hardware
compatibility list (HCL) you will not encounter that problem. Realtek
chipsets are supported like RTL 8029 AS. May be your 3com is a NEW model.

If you have time and want to recompile it's up to you.
