hi,

has anyone installed oracle 8i on linux? i had
problems
installing one on a remote server. i found out the
oracle installer requires X. but since im on remote, i
redirected the display to my local machine using:
   export DISPLAY:<my_ip>:0.0
however, the installer still wont proceed fine. it
complains lots of errors and warnings that appears to
me to be X-related (i could be wrong) like:

current locale is not supported in X11, locale is set
to CK locale modifiers are not supported, using
default
Warning: translation table syntax error: unknown
keysym name: osfDown
Warning: ... found while parsing '<Key>osfDown:
process-down()
Warning: translation table syntax error: unknown

/mnt2/stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/lib/linux/native_threads/libjava.so

and im back to CLI. Does anyone have experience
installing oracle on linux? I'd appreciate your help.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Christie
