hi. i haven't really tried installing 8.1.6 on Mandrake, but i did have similar
problems before. you have to check that it has exactly the software prereqs
stated on the oracle documentation .pdf file.
my problem then was the wrong version of jdk. the docs said i was to use 1.1.6.
i tried it on 1.1.8 thinking later versions are always better. di pala. you have
to follow the documentation demands to the letter when it comes to software
prereqs.
i'll try 8.1.6 on mandrake and i'll see if i could reproduce your prob.
