hello all,

blah ... blah...
...to make the long story short :

i tried sndconfig (something like that) to, well obviously, configure my sound card at
a gnome terminal (it did warn me that it's a bad idea to do that on x but anyways).
and then, it asked if i would want to test if there's sound coming out and
disappointingly there's none. then it hung.

i rebooted and then force clean and then after the

Finding module dependencies (something like that)

there came out something like

Loading sound blah blah viaxxx???? (something like that, my sound card
                                         is "via" something )

well, i know sndconfig must have changed some conf file before it hung and i could've
used an hour of my life sleeping instead of reinstalling (time check : 1:34 am) if
there is some kind of a "safe mode" ala windows where i can opt to skip some loading
stuff. so, is there a way? (btw, mine is rh6.2) to go further, what would you have
done in my situation

also, how do i set the mouse pointer on x? i run xconfigurator and when i choose a
resolution 800x600 (? something like that (again)) the mouse cursor is a cute white
box with sides <= 2 in.

thanx in advance
