If I'm not mistaken, the S3 Trio64V+ came before the S3 ViRGE chipset. It
improved upon the Trio64 core by having slightly faster 2D and video
acceleration. The Trio64UV+ is a Trio64V+ with UMA support.
The S3 ViRGE is essentially a Trio64V+ 2D Core with 3D acceleration. The
S3d� Graphics Engine brought several 3D acceleration features including
texture mapping, Gouraud shading, and the like. The basic unit supports
DRAM/EDO, whereas later variants had VRAM/WRAM support (ViRGE/VX) and SGRAM
support (ViRGE/GX).
Get the S3 ViRGE. It usually has support for higher refresh rates and comes
with more on-board memory.
