Hello Pluggers,
I have an RH6.2 Installation. I would like my SCSI drive to be mirrored
so I added another SCSI disk with exactly the same capacity (actually the
same model). I put them on the same controller and partitioned the new
disk (using FDISK of Linux) exactly the same as that of the primary disk.
The partition that I want mirrored is /usr (in /dev/sda5) and /var (in /dev/sda6).
The second disk has a /dev/sdb5 and /dev/sdb6 with exactly the same capacity
and start/end on the same block as that of the primary disk. The /dev/sda1 will
not be mirrored (as suggested in HOW-TOs).
I also defined a file raidtab under /etc.
Next, I changed to INIT 1 so that I can unmount /dev/sda5 and /dev/sda6. The
next thing I did is to run "mkraid /dev/md0" and mkraid /dev/md1" and this is where
I encountered errors. So I did a --really-force option and it was fine with /dev/md0.
When I did mkraid --really-force /dev/md1, it says that the super-block does not match
the physical block size and it overlaps some blocks being used by /dev/md0. I stopped
here and messed up everything.
Is my procedure correct ? Can someone, give me a step by step solution in configuring
RAID 1 under RH 6.2. My kernel is 2.2.16-20.
Thanks in advance.
JARED
