I have a scheduled shutdown script at night and I use the PC bios to
schedule the auto on.  We're using Asus boards for our Linux/x86 boxes.

i use something called wake-on-lan that is provided by our NICS...intel
eepro100. one server stays one and is the one managing the shutdowns and
start ups.
