What you need is a shell account with access to the cgi-bin
directory, a rare privilege which most sysads are not very willing
to give away, for security reasons. Your best bet is to convince
your boss to give you a new box which you can use for experimentation,
because after all, anything you learn will be for the benefit of
your company. A new box is cheap, but expert labor (sysad) is more
expensive than the box.
