i have never used texdraw outside miktex. i only used miktex for about a
month and then moved on to trash my windows partition forever and use 100%
linux stuff. i now use xfig and export the figure to latex2e format. (as
the doc mana suggested). this is way better than dealing with eps files
btw.

well i use plain vanilla latex compiler to generate the dvi file and then
user dvipdfm to convert it to pdf. you can download dvipdfm (found in
miktex but not in tetex. however, there is a linux version available.) it
is better than pdflatex because i preserves paper conditions of the
generated file. it also supports a level of pdf specific things. i got
frustrated with dvipdf and pdflatex because they ruin my precious latex
presentations.

The reason that every major university maintains a department of
mathematics is that it's cheaper than institutionalizing all those people.
