The libexec directory (usually /usr/libexec, but neither the 
File Hierarchy Standard FHS nor the FSSTND mentions it) usually
contains executables that are not directly executed from the 
commandline or from scripts by themselves, but are called by
other programs.  For example rmt in libexec seems to be called 
by tar.  Note that libexec need not be in the PATH.  I believe that
when programs here are executed, they are fully qualified.
