I've heard of mounting an encrypted filesystem saved within an unencrypted
filesystem as loopback, or something like that. Haven't really
experimented, and forgot what the URLs are, but that's the gist of it.
Unfortunately I haven't been seeing much about encrypted filesystems on
Linux. But then maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

I haven't heard of one. Unfortunately for now you'll have to plunk your
data somewhere as you kiss your partition's fs goodbye before you can put
back your data. Maybe there's some app out there, but for now, none
officially. If you're patient, you could e-mail the ReiserFS mailing list.
