[plug] ImageMagick installation

i'm trying to install ImageMagick-5.2.9 in rh7.  however, when i run configure, i get the following error message:   checking whether the C++ compiler works... no configure: error: C++ compiler cannot create executables   the version of gcc that is installed is 2.96-69.  does anyone know how to fix this problem?   fred
