Good call! Being able to see an application's interface and know it's
working is incredibly satisfying and provides great positive feedback for a
developer.
I'd vote for Tcl/Tk for it works out-of-the-box on Windows and Mac as well,
making it easy for your students to prototype and polish their interfaces on
whatever computer is available.
