the guys at lanl wanted something so that they could make diskless beowulf
nodes without having to burn netboot ROMS. i am considering this but i
need sometime to rethink things about life first. hehehe.

the putting the entire kernel in the bios makes it convinient.

currently, my beowulfish setup and javastations too would boot off a
netboot rom with a minimalish linux kernel that does pxe/rarp/bootp/dhcp
(depending on the hardware). then either downloads a minimalish filesystem
or mounts root nfs. whatever the case the kernel must be shrunk into the
netrom. ...then... some wise guys though..."why not but the kernel in the
BIOS?"
