According to the pldt dsl faq, they do not want their subscribers to
_invest_ in the modem just yet because the technology they are using is
still evolving (or something to that effect). When everything is in place
and minor changes to the system are needed nalang, only then will they give
the option to their subscribers to purchase their own dsl modems.
This is not the exact words of the faq, but this is how I understood it.
