I don't think there are shrink-wrap (or should I say tar-wrap?)
packages for POS available, as most businesses would require software
customized to their needs. I once wrote such a custom system for
managing video rentals for a friend with perl and postgres. It was a
job that took no more than two weeks for me (on a tremendously
underpowered machine) and less than 1000 lines of Perl code. I think
that most POS software for small to medium-scale businesses should be
typical in terms of complexity. Should not be too hard to make them
yourself, or hire out someone to do it for you (hint, hint :)
