Hi pluggers:
Oracle Linux docs recommend setting the kernel's
SHMMAX parameter to half of installed memory by
recompiling the kernel. However, in redhat 6.x, I
noticed there's /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax whose default
value is 33554432. Assuming I have 128MB of memory,
can't I just do:
echo '67108864' > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
upon boot-up instead of re-compiling the kernel? Is
that safe to do?
I appreciate any comments. Thanks lot.
Mary Christie
