To elaborate: the most important component of the SGA is db_block_buffers
(in your initXXX.ora file). configuring this to as much as your computer
will handle will VASTLY speed up queries. to speed up ORDER BY, increase
sort_buffer. to speed up concurrency, you need dedicated log and rollback
drives.
