I would be interested if you get minix running on that computer.

My gut-level feeling is that the most productive way you can use that
computer is still with DOS.  Any version of DOS will run on it - even
FreeDOS which you can download from the Internet.  

Maybe then you can get some of the dos gui tools to make it feel more
like Unix. I suspect there is a vi port which will run on that computer.  
I know there is Tex as well.  So while it will not run Linux, it is still
a useful computer which can work with your Linux desktop.

If the computer has a functioning serial port, you can use the computer as
a terminal, or set it up with a comms program that can allow you to move
files between it and your Linux system.

I can see no reason why such a computer could not be used in the ways
described above as something of a big notepad.  If you write, you can do
your writing on it with any of the available text editors, then pop them
over to the Linux system for finalizing, etc... html, Tex and more will
allow you to make beautiful docs this way.
