The files you are looking for will depend on what you want.
Simtel has been reorganized, so looking is not too hard. I believe that
the Unix-like files are under "DOS" then "Unix-like ..." something or
other. I'd check for you, but my ISP is having trouble with routing http
again...I think it's their transparent proxy.

As for freedos, again, I'm not sure, and I think the simtel links at
google are not updated yet. May I suggest some exploration...when you get
into the ftp directories, the top file is usually a detailed list of the
contents of that directory. As someone already said, watch out for the 32
bit programs which you will not be able to run - they abound. I believe
that the DOS version of lynx is a typical example. If you want lynx for
16 bit DOS, try bobcat. I think it is available at either fdisk.com or a
site run by TVdog - search for it. You also might try bootdisk.com - they
probably have a freedos bootdisk you can download.

I suspect that in most cases, the files you want will be either zips or
exe's - not tarballs, but there may be exceptions.

This has strayed from Linux, please feel free to write me directly if you
want to discuss this more. I was pretty interested in this type of stuff
before I started using Linux, and still dabble...
