webmin has a built-in alert system that you can configure to check processes
and remote systems. it can even grab webpages for you so you really know the
website is up.

however, the only alert it is capable right now is email. i bought a pager
just for that email-pager feature and it works for me. but one alert results
in two alerts. i haven't configured it to produce just one line.

just be ready to receive a lot of messages. sometimes lag in the internet
may casue some false alarms. but you can configure its time access.
